The Beatles song Let It Be is another classic rock song that goes about all the way back as far as I can remember. It was in that small stack of vinyl 45's left behind by my brother and sister, but this one we listened to together while they were still around. Not to mention that it was on the radio for who knows how long before that. I always thought the green apple on the label was so cool ! As one of the most iconic and enduring songs in the Beatles' discography, Let It Be has become a staple on classic rock radio stations around the world. I know a slow song like Let It Be doesn't necessarily go with the theme of my personal journey to rock n roll enlightenment, but this Beatles song is significant. Things don't always have to be hard rockin or fast to be heavy, ya know ?
Like I said before,The Surfaris song Wipeout generated the initial spark in me way back when I was very young. It got me amped up to want to go 1000 MPH, play drums, and crank it out, and all that. On the other hand, somehow this song made me want to just chill out and truly understand. To convey thought and emotion, and actually create something. I think this might be the one that started the musical juices flowing. Slowing me down to take a good look around at all music, and begin to gain some perspective. I've always had a real reverence for this song, even as a kid. It has a somber sort of spirituality to it, almost like a beautiful church hymn or something. Let It Be remains a testament to the timeless appeal of the Beatles' music and its enduring influence on generations of rock fans.
