After going through the old vinyl 45's, and being officially hooked on the rock n roll devil music, it was time to move on to some LP's. Since I was learning about new rock artists of the time, and listening to some of the best songs of the 70s, some of which turned out to be the best songs of all time, I wanted to see what else I could get my hands on. How ironic is it that my big magical, musical rock n roll journey started with a handful of discarded crap my brother and sister left behind? I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder ! (or ear of the beholder?) The first one as far as I can remember, was Don Kirshner Presents Rock Power - from Ronco records. This is where it all really started for me. What a classic rock and R&B extravaganza! I was in the vinyl LP big leagues now, no more messing around putting centering discs in those little 45's anymore.

The fact that I'd heard many of these songs on the radio already helped broaden my scope. I guess it was sort of a childhood epiphany that even for me, there's more to music than just the radio. People liked this music so much that just hearing it on the radio once in a while wasn't enough. They went out and bought their own copy. It also showed me that you won't necessarily hear all of the really good stuff on the radio ! Although just about every song on there was great for the times, I immediately went for the rock / funk stuff rather than the R&B. Definitely not knockin R&B, I was just too young for all that lovey dovey radio stuff at the time. I was on a musical adventure and I wanted just a little more funk than that, like my boys Dr.John, Five Man Electrical Band, or Steppenwolf.

Somehow the Black Sabbath song Paranoid and the Alice Cooper song No More Mr. Nice Guy were just OK at the time. I didn't get it yet. They didn't really seem heavy somehow, but that would all change soon enough. I had a lot to learn …..
